Vermeer and the masters of genre painting at the Louvre Museum
Until May 22nd , the Musée du Louvre presents an exhibition devoted to the leader of this art, Johannes Vermeer, and highlights his greatest masterpieces and many canvases by his contemporaries in order to make Account of this artistic emulation which has enabled him to achieve excellence.
Johannes Vermeer and his Dutch contemporaries Gérard Dou, Gerard ter Borch, Jan Steen, Pieter de Hooch and Frans van Mieris loved to represent the refined scenes of everyday life. Through their interaction but also a form of competition that they maintained among themselves, these artists have sublimated a typical pictorial typology of the 17th century.
